Introducing the Wright Opera House Community Room
The Wright Opera House Community Room is a 1,000-square foot multi-purpose room in the south bay of our basement level, located at the rear of 472 Main Street, Ouray. The vision for this Community Space is to bolster the Wright Opera House’s programming and community-minded mission by providing a venue for art classes, dance classes, meetings, exercise, and more. The Wright was able to complete this project with support from Susan & James Opdahl, and a grant from the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley.
The Community Room features a small kitchenette with mini-refrigerator, sink, dishwasher and bar height counter. A single, gender neutral restroom is available inside the room. Wireless internet is available in the space, as well as wall mirrors and a seating area.
Interested in hosting your class in the Community Room?
It is free and available for local use, with ADA access available from the rear of the 472 Main Street building. A private parking lot is also available directly in front of the Community Room. Users will need to sign a simple waiver and release form, and will receive a unique access code for entry at their designated date and time. Email

Weehawken Creative Arts Partnership
The Wright Opera House is thrilled to be partnering with Weehawken Creative Arts to once again offer programs in Ouray!
Fine Arts
Illustration Workshop, ages 8-12
Join artist Katey Fetch and dive into the world of illustration in this fun, hands-on workshop designed for young artists! Over three weeks, students will explore the exciting stages of creating an illustration, from finding inspiration and sketching thumbnails to using lightboxing techniques and refining their final piece. Students will focus on developing their unique style while working on a special project: a self-portrait with a narrative twist that tells their personal story. Throughout the workshop, we’ll experiment with watercolor washes, layer with acrylics, add details using colored pencils or collage, and finish with optional embellishments like gold leaf or other creative materials.
This workshop is perfect for kids eager to explore storytelling through art and create their own masterpiece. No prior art experience is needed—just bring your imagination and curiosity!
Wednesdays 4-5:15 pm (3 week session, starting January 15th)

Exploring the Galaxy, ages 5-8

Dance Class
Dance classes begin August 26, culminating in 6 performances at the Montrose Pavilion in December. Classes will be held with Miss Tajiana in The Community Room.
Together we welcome a new teacher, Miss Tajiana. Tajiana Rueschhoff’s dance journey began at the age of 5 when she first stepped into a small ballet school in Mississippi, sparking a passion that would endure a lifetime. Growing up in Ouray, Colorado, she continues to nurture her love for dance with Weehawken, honing her skills over the years. It’s a full-circle moment as Tajiana return to her roots, teaching for Weehawken Dance at the Wright Opera House in Ouray, where she spent many years dancing with Miss Natasha. We’re thrilled to welcome her back to inspire a new generation of dancers in the same place that holds so many memories for her.
