Six Readings // September 9 - March 10
A new community literary series, Poetry at the Tavern, offers readings by established regional poets as well as opportunities for local poets to share their work in a supportive setting.
Presented by Ouray's Wright Opera House, the monthly event will run second Thursdays, September of this year through March, 2022 in The Tavern at the Wright, an intimate space with a fireplace and small tables. Readings by the invited Colorado region poets promise to both inspire and entertain. Some are new faces to the community and others, who have read in Ouray County, will be back by popular demand.
Featured poets will dialogue with the audience and may have books for sale and signing. Following each reading and a short intermission, audience members can read their own short works during an open mic. Poetry at the Tavern evenings will begin at 7pm with box office opening at 6pm. Beverages and small bites will be available for purchase.

Wayne Miller is the author of five poetry collections, including We the Jury (Milkweed, 2021) and Post- (2016), which won the UNT Rilke Prize and the Colorado Book Award. He has co-translated two books by the Albanian writer Moikom Zeqo—most recently Zodiac (Zephyr, 2015), which was shortlisted for the PEN Center USA Award in Translation—and he has co-edited three books, most recently Literary Publishing in the Twenty-First Century (Milkweed, 2016). The recipient of six awards from the Poetry Society of America, the Bess Hokin Prize, a Ruth Lilly Fellowship, and a Fulbright Distinguished Scholarship to the Seamus Heaney Centre in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Miller teaches at the University of Colorado Denver, co-directs the Unsung Masters Series, and edits Copper Nickel.
