Peter Davison “Objectivity Dance Theater”
Objectivity Dance Theater mixes contemporary ballet, physical theater, and circus artistry in a one-of-a-kind show for all ages! Our human experience is intertwined with the objects around us. Movement artists Jennifer Aiken and Peter Davison reveal shared aspects of life through astonishing interactions with objects, and each other.
Drawing on decades of experience in dance, circus arts and physical theatre, these two artists create a completely original performance that is unlike any other yet accessible for all audiences, young and old alike. ODT presents works with diverse styles and visual elements, treating audiences to a rich layering of powerful movement, imagery, humanity and virtuosic skills.
“Baroque Diversions” set to piano sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti, includes skillful ball games, and a duel with sword and fan/physical force and wiles.
“Diverse Abstractions” is a series of interwoven movement pieces with juggling, cycling, a single lightbulb on a darkened stage, and a duet with an 8-foot ladder.
“Sie und Er” (Her and Him) is based on the correspondence between the 19th century composer Robert Schumann and his future wife Clara, who were initially forbidden to wed. The dance illustrates the “emotional movement” that a letter—a simple piece of paper—can inspire.
“Ragtime” portrays, through both humor and drama, a depression-era couple making do with what little they have, maintaining optimism, and hanging onto that which is most important: each other.
The ODT story began in dance studios and onstage where Jenn and Peter worked together within dance companies in Colorado. They discovered a shared affinity for dancing with objects, mutual trust, and a desire to create something new. Romance eventually grew within their artistic relationship and now they are life partners both onstage and off.
Peter, originally from Santa Monica, California, began his career as a teenage juggler performing on the streets of Los Angeles. When he was 21 years old he won the National Juggling Championships and went on to incorporate dance and theater into his work, becoming a unique multi-disciplinary performer and choreographer over the next 30 years. Peter has toured internationally and appeared on several national TV shows.
Jenn, originally from Arvada, Colorado, has been a dancer since age five, and grew up training in ballet and modern dance. She has danced with acclaimed companies in Colorado such as Boulder Ballet, BRIAH Danse, David Taylor Dance Theater, Dawson Wallace Dance Project, Zikr Dance Ensemble, and 3rd Law Dance/Theater. Jenn is also an expert costume designer and maker, having created costumes for several companies and dance schools, as well as her beautiful creations for ODT.
