The annual melodrama at the Wright Opera House has become a highly anticipated summer event for people of all ages. We have worked hard for more than a decade to make this western mountain town tradition something that locals and visitors alike anticipate every July. We began working on the 2020 melodrama, Little Nell, a few months ago, and have been trudging through the difficulties of State and Local restrictions in hopes of bringing you some time-honored hilarity during these difficult days. However, because our orders are to keep our theatre doors closed until June 30 at the earliest, and even then, we are not confident that we will be allowed to open for the month of July. Nor are we confident that, if allowed to open in July, we will be given permission for a large enough capacity to give the melodrama its most important character - You, the Audience.
It is with all this in mind that we have decided to postpone Little Nell until next summer.
Theatres never truly go dark.
As tradition has it, a single bulb left lit on stage is called a Ghost Light.
It welcomes the spirits of shows from the past.
The Wright Opera House stage is currently illuminated with a ghost light, waiting anxiously to once again welcome her audiences.
