"An arm is a branch that grasps at the fabric of life. A leg is a branch that offers movement and stability. A wing is a branch that propels us to new heights. A road is a branch leading us in new directions or bringing us home.” - Cie
ARTIST STATEMENT: We grow in different directions, but we are rooted in the same soil. We reach towards the heavens for inspiration and we dig down deep for balance and stability. Like the limbs and roots of a tree, I have pushed myself in many directions over the years while still striving to maintain a sense of life-balance. My latest exhibit “Branches” is centered around these concepts and carries a theme of utilizing wood to create art that evokes a sense of outward progression while still maintaining balance.
An arm is a branch that grasps at the fabric of life. A leg is a branch that offers movement and stability. A wing is a branch that propels us to new heights. A road is a branch leading us in new directions or bringing us home. The pieces in this exhibit are intended to be open to personal interpretation and I invite you to come find your own meaning amongst the “Branches” at The Wright Opera House. - Cie
ABOUT CIE: Artist, musician, husband. Cie Hoover lives and creates his art right here in Ouray, Colorado. In addition to performing alongside his wife Karisa in the folk-rock duo You Knew Me When, Cie has always had a passion for the visual arts. After working in the Nashville music industry for over a decade, and then touring full-time for six and a half years throughout North America with You Knew Me When, Cie rekindled his love of the visual arts amongst the San Juan Mountains.
After buying and remodeling an old 1898 mining house in Ouray, Cie discovered the versatility of wood as an artistic medium and began transforming his garage into his woodworking studio. He utilizes wood in nearly every aspect of the art that he creates. From wooden canvases, to carved and crafted sculptures, much of Cie’s art is inspired by the mountains of Colorado and the music he creates, including the occasional use of sound waves as an artistic element and subtle dictation of what the work embodies.
