Ouray Area Geology as seen through the eyes of Google
Interesting geologic features in the Ouray area can be viewed and interpreted on Google Earth. Geologic maps can be imported into Google Earth to show how the geology controls the landscape. For example, the Ouray and Ridgway faults, various intrusions, and the Silverton Caldera control major landscape features. Most of the lectures will demonstrate this for our San Juan area, but attendees will be encouraged to ask about interesting features anywhere, as Google Earth covers the entire planet.
