Meet the Trio
Jeff Solon is a self-taught musician, who plays saxophone, clarinet, flute, harmonica, and piano. He is immersed in the music of jazz as a soloist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and teacher. He began his professional musical adventure as a street performer, playing his way through Central and South America (1980 – 1985), and has continually performed extensively throughout the southwest since 1985, with his duets, groups, and 8 piece swing band. He has been a yearly grant recipient (1993 –2013) from the Durango Friends of the Arts for his public school assemblies and workshops, and has won several awards from the Colorado Council on the Arts, and The Fort Lewis College Foundation. He has led three tours for the U.S. Embassy in Latin America, produced and released 14 recordings, and teaches jazz studies at Fort Lewis College.
Elizabeth Riordan hails from Grand Island, New York and has been joyfully entertaining people with her bass since the early age of eight years old. She has won numerous awards and scholarships in orchestral and jazz competitions, studied at the Eastman School of music and has performed in Germany, Italy, and extensively in the U.S. After Ms. Riordan relocated to California, she was in a car accident, which nearly destroyed all the nerves in her right hand. After surgery and a difficult recovery, she became committed to her music, earning a BM in jazz performance on double bass at California State University Northridge. She worked in the music scene in Los Angeles for 12 years and has been working with Jeff Solon extensively since she found her way to the southwest in 2012.
Jack Maynes began playing classical piano as a child. His curiosity and passion for music led him to study at Fort Lewis College with classical pianist Dr. Lisa Campi. Mr. Maynes followed his intrigue and fascination with the jazz idiom and completed a jazz studies degree in 2011, where he met and studied with Jeff Solon. He also studies jazz piano with Eric Gunnison in Denver. Mr. Maynes performs around this region in small and large combos, with a salsa group, and as a vocal accompanist. He teaches private piano instruction. Maynes is a sensitive colorful player who brings wonderful harmonies and melodic ideas to his performance.
